There has been a growing crop of independent musicians that has signaled seismic changes in the music industry. With less of an adherence to labels, there are new key players and new ways of doing business — think fewer managers and being more digitally upgraded. You might be wondering the secret to success for clicking in the music industry. To know more about it, let us know about entrepreneur John Michael Veiga, also known as JPOPD1, a Grammy nominated and an award winning singer and songwriter.

Artist, Songwriter, Producer, Actor, and Author John Michael Veiga, professionally known as JPOPD1, has been a rising star in the Miami music creation scene for some time now. From writing and producing for Latin pop-stars, hip hop artists, RnB singers, country superstars and alternative artists alike, JPOPD1 is a force to be reckoned with in all aspects of media and entertainment.John Michael Veiga is the CEO of Leap over Demons Publishing, a record label.

The hunger for inspiration is admirable and refreshing for an artist like John Michael Veiga, telling relatable yet seemingly truthful stories in his heart pounding and emotionally driven music; serving as the ice breaker between his fans, supporters, and him. He humbles himself enough to be honest about where he comes from, and where he sees himself going.

John Michael Veiga began his love for music way before the introduction of streaming services and even before YouTube ever existed. As he has stated in various interviews, he began his love for music by the simple and curious nature of sounds and colours affecting him physically and psychologically due to his unique and wonderful disorder, as he loves to call it; synaesthesia. He began memorizing and rewriting lyrics to famous pop, rap and alternative artists, continually, day in day out, thus learning song and music structure. His mother Olga always said he had a gift for the arts, because he was a character of a child growing up. Always a handful, John was not the easiest child to control and deal with. Always getting into trouble and causing mischief, he was placed in private school to further advance his education and discipline. Having been a social butterfly by nature, it was easy for John to make friends as well as enemies very quickly. But he never really talks about the negative aspects of his life in his interviews.

His father Lazaro Miguel Veiga went to prison before he was born for murder charges against him, but not much else has been documented about his biological father. Having met him after being released from prison, John describes his relationship with his biological father as one resembling a distant friendship. He has also stated that he loved his father, but the man who raised him was Higinio Garcia, his step father and his role model in life as he states. Olga Mendez, his mother, was his main inspiration to continue to pursue his dreams. He states many times in several interviews, that the support of his mother is the reason for his confidence. He says his family is the motivation behind his drive for success.

Working under the label Leap over Demons Publishing, he derives the rest of his inspiration from a myriad of directions. He lists Lil Wayne, Kevin Gates, Tory Lanez, Drake, Jcole, Jbalvin and Maluma as some influences. The latter influence can particularly be heard in his highly-danceable 2019 album Hipnotizados alongside fellow artist Visous Eye. His 2016 single “Love in Miami” with group “NIGHTLYFE” was one of his first professional releases in the United States. It seems like JPOPD1 boasts so many different styles, as if it were second nature or language to him. His greatest inspiration, however, comes from a more introspective place: Life itself. JPOPD1 channels his day-to-day experiences and struggles into his tracks.

The relentless artist has shown no sign of slowing down anytime soon. To follow-up “Feisty,” JPOPD1 is currently working on future tracks which he regards to as “diamonds in the rough”.

JPOPD1 has a willingness to learn and work with others, especially those he considers family, but says that one of his biggest obstacles as a musical artist has been finding authentic people in the industry to surround himself with. As much as he creates music for others, he credits his chosen path with keeping him off the streets and out of jail. Simply put, cliché and all, creating music keeps him alive.
